TTIP : THE US-EU JOINT PROJECT TO CRUSH DEMOCRACY

Peter Lindsay, Reigate Branch UKIP

There are already huge movements of opposition to the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) in most European countries but debate in the UK has been muted.

EXPOSED! The Independent reveals what it's all about HERE.

The European Commission has announced that it will not allow a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to challenge these secret “trade talks” it is holding with the US government, supposedly on our behalf.

What is this?

TTIP is effectively a new bill of rights for multinational corporations, granting them unprecedented powers and undermining vital labour, environmental and food safety standards in the name of ‘free’ trade.

TTIP is also a direct threat to our democracy, as the European Commission seeks to allow companies to challenge future policies introduced anywhere in Europe that could reduce their profits.

The European Union was always a CIA project - Ambrose Evans Pritchard - READ HERE

Under the so-called ‘investor-state dispute settlement’ (ISDS) clause in the agreement, companies will win the power to sue host states in special “Courts” when their profits come under threat.

This effectively gives the unelected multinational company the status of an elected sovereign government.

ISDS clauses in already-existing agreements of this type under other treaties have already been used against sovereign Governments:

* The challenge brought by Philip Morris ,the US tobacco giant against the democratically elected Australian government for loss of profits as a result of the country’s public health requirement that all cigarettes be sold in plain packaging.

* The challenge brought by French utilities giant Veolia against the Egyptian government for threatening its profits by raising the minimum wage.

There are many other equally shocking examples stretching back over the past 20 years.

As always, the UK government is a major part of the problem. Leaked documents from internal EU discussions over the parallel EU-Canada trade talks (CETA) reveal that the UK is the only member state providing unconditional support for the European Commission in its desire to introduce these new powers for business, at the expense of democracy and the rule of law!

* TTIP is predicted to cost at least one million jobs between the EU and USA as standards are cut.

TTIP will lead to actions in the ISDS “Courts” should any UK Government refuse to privatize parts or all of the NHS. Michael Bowsher QC, former chair of the Bar Council, advised the Unite union in February 2016 that the deal poses a “real and serious risk” to future governments’ ability to make decisions about the NHS and that public services such as the NHS will be first in the line of fire if Europe’s public sector is opened up to US corporations.

TTIP will come into force in the UK as soon as the deal is concluded between the US and EU.

BRITAIN CAN ESCAPE FROM THE CLUTCHES OF TTIP ONLY IF IT VOTES TO LEAVE THE EU ON JUNE 23RD 2016
